A prayer worth praying: God, give us boldness!

Peter and John were jailed and threatened by the authorities. They had healed a man who had been lame from birth. That action was attracting crowds, and the authorities were unhappy that Peter and John were telling people that those who die have the possibility of new life because of Jesus.

(You can read the account of this in Acts 3 and 4.)

When Peter and John were released from prison, they made a request to God that we could pray also:

"Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:29-30, NRSV)

Peter and John didn't ask for safety. They trusted themselves to God who loved them. Instead they asked for boldness to do their part, while God performed more signs that would attract more people to Jesus.

God, help us to be bold to do all the things you call us to do. Help the world see your amazing love and mercy. Thank you. Amen.
