Let God guide you
One day Simeon felt he should go to the temple.
When you receive an impression like that, it's easy to discount. Many times we're headed a different direction or we're doing something else. We think we can always get to that impression later.
But God often reveals important moments (if we're willing to listen). God sometimes shows us the exact right time to take an action. When we don't follow through, we miss a moment that won't happen again.
Fortunately for Simeon, he acted on the impression. As a result he saw something few other people saw. When Mary and Joseph came to dedicate the baby Jesus, Simeon recognized that he was looking at the Messiah, even though Jesus was only a few days old.
When you have an impression, a few simple steps can help.
First ask yourself whether it is a temptation to do something God wouldn't endorse. Don't follow those. You can also discard impressions if they come with a feeling that doesn't reflect God's character - i.e., if they feel anxious, rushed, slimy, vengeful, etc. But if the impression is encouraging you to do something good, try following it as an experiment. You may find yourself at the exact right place at the exact right time, as Simeon did.
God, help us to hear your guidance and to joyfully follow you. Thank you. Amen.
