God uses small beginnings
to bring significant change
Genesis 1:1-3 (NRSV), says:
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
As the story in Genesis continues, we see God working through a process as God calls things into being. God could have created everything all at once. But God creates first one thing, then another, then another after that.
Sometimes when we're in the middle of the story, it's hard to wait for the things that are still coming, the things that haven't emerged yet. But God, who called light, the earth, and you into being, is still creating good things. They're worth waiting for.
1 Peter 2:9 (NRSV) says:
You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
God has called you out of darkness into God's wonderful light. That's a great reason to praise and thank God!
Sometimes, you may be keenly aware of God's mercy and God's amazing light in your life. Sometimes in your life you might feel more in touch with the darkness and formless void mentioned in Genesis, the stuff that exists before God creates something new.
One of the amazing things about being called into the light is that it takes very little light to change the darkness. You might not feel powerful, and you might not feel like there's very much of God's light in you. But it's enough to change the darkness around you. Influence is not the same as power.
At the moment, what you have might not seem like it's enough. But trust God's provision, and continue to step into the light. You'll be surprised how God can use small beginnings to bring significant change.
What good things has God called into being in your life?
What are you still waiting for?
