Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:7, "God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline."
Even so, it's not easy to be courageous. It's not easy to be brave. But we're called to go against the grain and act when no one else is acting, to defend people in danger like Esther did.
Proverbs 31:8,9 (NRSV) says, "Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute. Speak out, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy."
God, help us to be brave and to help people in danger. Thank you. Amen.
